India: Nouryon, Atul Commence MCA Production at New Unit
May 3, 2021 – Nouryon and Atul have successfully started production at Anaven, a new joint venture in Gujarat, India, that will help meet the rapidly growing demand in India’s agricultural, personal care and pharmaceutical markets. Anaven is India’s largest monochloroacetic acid (MCA) production site, with a current capacity of 32,000 tons of MCA per year, with the possibility of a rapid expansion of up to 60,000 tons per year. MCA is used as an essential raw material for a variety of products, such as adhesives, pharmaceuticals and crop protection chemicals. Atul consumes a portion of the MCA directly in its own production of crop protection chemicals. Read more…
Russia: Lummus Technology Secures Master Licensor Contract
May 03, 2021 – Lummus Technology has announced that it has been awarded a master licensor contract by PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim for its ethylbenzene, styrene monomer, ethylene dimerization and olefins conversion technologies. These four plants will be part of the expansion of an olefins production facility in Nizhnekamsk, Russia. The dimerization and olefins conversion units will be the first in Russia.
Lummus’ scope includes the technology license and basic engineering for the ethylbenzene, styrene monomer, ethylene dimerization and olefins conversion units. Once complete, the units will produce 250 KTA of ethylbenzene via the Ebone technology, 250 KTA of styrene monomer via the Classic SM technology and 150 KTA of polymer grade propylene production via olefins metathesis chemistry using Lummus’ ethylene dimerization (Dimer) and olefins conversion technologies (OCT).
Singapore: Neste Selects Emerson for Digital Transformation of its Refinery
May 04, 2021 – Emerson has been selected to support the digital transformation of Neste’s refinery in Tuas, Singapore. Emerson’s automation systems and software will help Neste deliver high-performance, efficient operations, supporting Neste’s plans to increase production by up to 1.3 million tons per annum by 2023.
At the end of 2018, Neste made a strategic decision to expand its production facility in Singapore via the Singapore Expansion Project. On top of its existing 1.3 million tons annual production capacity of renewable diesel, the expanded refinery will have additional capacity to produce up to 1 million tons of sustainable aviation fuel and renewable raw materials for polymers and chemicals, supporting the company’s goal to reduce customers’ greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20 million tons annually by 2030. May 05, 2021 – Lyondell Basell has announced that Shandong Yulong Petrochemical Co. will use the Lyondell Basell Lupotech T high-pressure polyethylene technology in two separate production lines at a new facility in China.
The process technology will be used for a 200 KTA low density polyethylene (LDPE) line and a 300 KTA LDPE and ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) line to produce LDPE with vinyl acetate comonomer. The facility will be located in Longkou, Yantai, Shandong Province, P.R. of China. Read more…
Europe: Trinseo, ETB Join Forces for Bio-Based 1,3 Butadiene
May 05, 2021 – Trinseo and ETB have signed a letter of intent to collaborate on the development of purified bio-based 1,3-butadiene. This will see the two companies combine their respective technology and process expertise to accelerate the development of viable, renewably sourced material solutions.
Under the partnership, the companies will jointly explore opport-unities to scale up ETB's unique single-stage process to produce bio-based 1,3-butadiene from ethanol using the polyfunctional catalyst technology. The collaboration will initially focus on demonstrating the viability of sustainable ethanol-based synthetic rubber in support of green tire production. To underline this mutual commitment, Trinseo, with ETB's support, will conduct a feasibility study to explore the construction of a dedicated bio-based 1,3-butadiene pilot plant in Europe. Once operational, it is intended that the pilot plant will include a purification unit to achieve a purity target of 99.7 %. Read more…
Belgium: How Borealis uses the revolutionary Qpinch technology in a polyolefin plant
May 06, 2021 – In order to achieve the high climate targets demanded by European and international politics, gamechanger innovations are necessary. Qpinch technology may be one of them.
