Method Adopted at Klüber Lubrication
a) Rooftop Water Harvesting System
The rain water collected on the roof is directed to a collection chamber through downtake pipes. Down-take pipes are connected to a series of chambers which are provided with strainers. The suspended solid gets trapperd in the collection chamber. The collection chamber is connected to rain water collection tanks through pipes. No special equipment or purification method is used as the harvested water is utilised for non-potable purposes. Motors are connected to tanks for pumping water from the tank. However, roof top, tanks and collectionchambers are checked and cleaned periodically. Process Flow:
- 1. Roof-tops are provided with down-take pipes
- 2. Pipes are provided with strainers to trap suspended materials
- 3. All down-take pipes are connected to inspection chambers on the ground level
- 4. Rain water flows through down-take pipes, inspection chambers and finally to the collection tank
- 5. Water collected in the final collection tank is pumped and used for non potable purpose
b) Surface Rain Water Harvesting System
Runoff water is connected to a recharge pit to recharge ground water. Two recharge pits have been installed in the factory premises. The recharge pit allows the rainwater to replenish ground water. It is a simple process with less electromechanical equipment and purification methods. The key improvements are:
- Reduced utilisation of a scarce natural resource
- Cost savings in terms of reduced water bills
- Spreading the awareness throughout the organisation of the need for judicious utilisation and conservation of natural resources
