IGP Pulvertechnik, with its operative headquarter in Wil / Switzerland was founded in 1968 and has always been developing powder coating systems for applications in the field of architecture and industry. With a market share of 60 % IGP is the biggest powder coating producer in Switzerland and even internationally one of the most important companies in this area.

On the Safe Side of Dust Explosions with Ventex

Up to now, the IGP Pulvertechnik has partners and agencies in 40 countries, seven subsidiaries in Europe, more than 380 employees and a production volume of 12.000 metric tons of powder coating each year. Leo D’Anna has been part of the IGP team for 18 years now. As a member of the company and operating management, he is responsible for the production. 150 employees work in his particular area. The production planning, maintenance and the process engineering are also parts of the operating managers’ field of responsibility. The production runs in three-shift operation.

“As during the processing of powdery materials – especially in combination with air and a possible sparking – dust explosions can occur, we give high priority to constructive explosion protection measures”, says Leo D’Anna, who has been part of the IGP team for 18 years now.

“Our core task is to produce and develop powder coatings for different applications. Office furniture or drinking bottle manufacturers as well as producers of switch cabinets are just some of our customers”, Leo D’Anna explains and complements: “We deliver our products all over Europe. Especially in the field of architecture we have a strong presence, because metal facades are often covered with our powder coating to become more robust and weather resistant”.

Highway to the Dangerzone – The Risk of Dust Explosions

There is also the fact, that powder coating offers significant advantages: “Both ecological and economical aspects play an important role in our business. Powder coating is not only solvent-free but additionally more productive in its usage”. The optimal functionality as well as the safety during the production process are therefore highly focussed. “By now we operate about 20 mills in which our varnishes are produced. As during the processing of powdery materials – especially in combination with air and a possible sparking – dust explosions can occur, we give high priority to constructive explosion protection measures”, says Leo D’Anna. For this reason all IGP process plants are equipped with Ventex explosion protection valves by RICO Sicherheitstechnik, which is located in the nearby Herisau.
