PROCESS: What is the percentage of saving expected by switching over to Dri II desiccants?

Ketan Premani: There is no way to calculate this as it is specific to each customer. It depends on the current level of losses, the value of the shipper’s cargo, the number of containers shipped per year, etc. We work closely with customers to optimise the amount of Container Dri II needed based on several parameters in order for them to realise the optimum product protection and savings.

Huge Potentials for Desiccants in India

In the Indian food industry, the new desiccants can find wide applications for transporting agricultural products, canned foods and food powders. Talking on the possibility of a rise in transportation cost of food products, he said, “For a minimal additional cost, a shipper can protect the cargo in a 40 foot container – cargo that is most likely worth exponentially more than the cost of the added protection.”

Commenting on the market potential of the desiccants, he added, “There is a great potential in emerging economies like India. As exports from these countries continue to rise, there is an increased demand to ensure that the products reach their destinations safe from moisture damage.”
