PROCESS: Besides the technology that BTS has already transferred to China, what are the new ones to come?

Dr. Franke: In addition we see a strong demand for Site Master Planning (SMP) services as many companies are planning to build new facilities or extend/relocate existing production units. If done well a Site Master Plan can significantly reduce the investment costs for the related infrastructure and enable future growth at minimum costs. A very good example for a well planned SMP is the Bayer Integrated Site at Caojing, Shanghai. Our experts in SMP and project management can provide tailored solutions to our customers in the planning phase.

PROCESS: Now that more and more international engineering companies entered China market, and the local players including the design institutes are rising up as well, which formed a highly competitive market. What do you see is the core competitiveness of BTES?

Dr. Franke: A substantial strength is, that Bayer Technology Services offers fully-integrated solutions along the entire life cycle of chemical and pharmaceutical plants — from development through engineering and construction to process optimization for existing plants with close ties to operators. Furthermore, I have mentioned a couple of new and special technologies and solutions, that support our position in the China market. For international customers, our local experience for execution of investment projects is a unique selling point. Through the past years we have successfully completed more than 60 projects throughout China, during which we acquired a lot of knowledge which is of high value for foreign companies which want to invest into the growing Chinese market. In this context I would like to mention the following topics: expertise in permitting procedures in different parts of this country; excellent overview about the characteristics of many industrial and chemical parks; experience and expertise in Intellectual Property protection; local sourcing thus balancing quality and costs for our customers based on their demands. Last but not least, with the global network of BTS, we are able to provide services throughout the world.
