The new Glatt innodryer allows a gentle drying of herbs and other temperature sensitive products. The valuable ingredients of the herbs are maintained during the drying. The energy consumption is only a fraction of conventional technologies, the company says.
An entirely new and patented drying process has been developed by Glatt Ingenieurtechnik in cooperation with the company innodrying. This process is especially designed for the most gentle drying of high-value herbs, saving not only form, texture and colour but also the essential oils. According to the manufacturer, these dried products are by far superior to products produced by conventional drying processes. During a two-year development period this has been proven for many herbs, e.g. basil, chives, tarragon and parsley. Currently the application is tested for mushrooms and additional high value temperature sensitive products.
Compared to conventional freeze dryers the innodryer saves about 70% energy, resulting in low processing costs. In addition the investment cost is considerably below the freeze dryer. Besides the new drying process the Glatt innodryer can be used for all standard fluid bed processes, like spray granulation, agglomeration and coating. This flexibility is an additional advantage when the drying is only a seasonal business.
