Former Waaree Instruments is now Baumer Technologies India

PROCESS: From the global perspective, how will the Baumer Group benefit from this business deal?

ALF ZIPS: Baumer is an international group, which deals with the development and production of sensors, shaft encoders, components for automatic image processing as well as mechanical and electronic process instruments. On the other hand, Baumer Technologies India, (formerly Waaree Instruments) comes with strong base in the business of mechanical process instrumentation in India and abroad.

By deploying proven manufacturing processes and quality standards at Indian manufacturing facility, Baumer can produce the best quality process instruments and source them from India. By this, globally our group can be very strong in process instrumentation with increased product portfolio, in addition to our very strong position of sensor products. We can now combine expertise from both Europe and India to develop very high quality products.

Additionally, India has a huge potential of growth, and we would like to be part of this growth. We are not only looking at the low-cost production site – but also keeping our eyes on better competency level.

PROCESS: Why did Baumer Group choose India to acquire a company?

ZIPS: Slowly Europe is becoming a very expensive production centre for mechanical process instruments. In order to grow globally, be competitive and still deliver highquality products, Baumer had to look for a production hub within Asian countries. Baumer chose India because it could find the right company here, which is very strong with manufacturing base, and maintains a better quality standard for products than other manufacturers of similar products do.

Also, this company has a very wide presence in middle-east countries. So, we have the win-win situation for both – the parent company as well as the new subsidiary.
