The MTL4500 isolators are a compact integrated solution for flexible cabinet layout. Incorporating advanced circuit design, a common set of components and innovative isolating transformer construction, the isolators achieve a significant reduction in power consumption while increasing channel packing densities. The 16mm wide design reduces weight and gives exceptionally high packing density.

This development is only the beginning of the cooperation, Yokogawa Industrial Automation vice-president Konishi believes. Together, both companies want to develop complete control systems for customer in branches from all over the process industry. The focus in this development shall be on safety and efficiency of industrial production to better connect field devices and process control, Eaton explained. In addition to improving production efficiency, this will allow the optimisation of maintenance of the production control system, safety instrumented system, programmable controllers, all field devices, and other components, thereby reducing costs and ensuring the long-term stability of operations.

Energy Management Becomes Key to European Markets

Partnerships like the joint development project with Eaton could serve as a door opener to coveted markets, where the Japanese company faced some difficulties during the past years: “Our current market share figures are far from meeting our expectations and there are industries in which our position leaves a lot to be desired”, explained van den Berg. The energy benefit that new automation solutions could bring would seem especially desirable in Europe, where workforce and energy are expensive.

The company’s strategy nevertheless goes far further than process control and I/O-modules: Yokogawa plans a network of strategic partners, with which the company wants to establish a broad service portfolio. For this purpose, understanding the needs and requirements of customers in process and chemical industries becomes crucial. Partnerships like the joint project with Eaton could therefore help to tap into new markets by joining know how and expertise.
