PROCESS: How is the food & beverage (F&B) industry faring in India?
RAVICHANDRAN PURUSHOTHAMAN: The food and beverages industry is growing well in India currently. The Government of India’s initiatives to establish food processing parks across the country have encouraged the industry to a great extent. As a result, we see increasing investments being made in this sector.
Also, technological advancements are helping the market to grow. For example, new packaging techniques help expanding the shelf life of products such as juices. This further leads to penetration of products in the rural market.

PROCESS: What trends do you see in this industry?
PURUSHOTHAMAN: One of the primary trends in the F&B industry is automation. When a plant crosses a certain scale, automation becomes necessary to remain competitive in the market. An automated plant possesses numerous advantages, mainly low cost of operation. Thanks to such benefits, we see a rising trend of automation in the country.
Besides, the industry is also focusing on energy efficiency. It prefers to install energy efficient products and solution at their plant, which ultimately results in lower power consumption. Danfoss also focuses on the same factor by developing energy efficient products and solutions.
