Why Recycle?

Treated water can be used in a variety of applications in industries, and serves as a more dependable source of water, in uncertain times. Further, using recycled water helps to reduce investments in water extraction and supply, including costs incurred on constructing and maintaining water storage facilities and pipelines.

In Indian industries, recycled water is used in utility power plants as cooling water, and for industrial processes. The quality of water used in industrial processes varies as per the application — for example, the electronics industry uses water that is of an almost distilled quality for washing circuit boards and other electrical components, while the pulp and paper industry requires intermediate grade water. However, at present, only a few industries have begun to use recycled water in their operations. Two prominent examples include the GlaxoSmithKline plant in Rajahmundry that treats domestic and industrial wastewater for reuse in gardening and landscaping purposes, and the ACC Chaibasa plant that reuses treated water in the cement plant.
