As the Petronor project has shown, it is possible to sharply reduce the cost of retrofitting existing processing plants. In this case, Radioline replaced traditional cabling. This made it possible to get rid of some 40 kilometers of data lines that would otherwise have had to have been installed throughout the Ex area. The Radioline system offers great flexibility in terms of its adaptability to different system sizes and architectures as well as in terms of its ability to meet individual requirements. This significantly reduces engineering time and costs.
The first stations in the wireless network went into service almost three years ago at the site in Muskiz. The Radioline modules have operated smoothly and reliably during this time. The functions provided by the wireless system, such as package authentication, a proprietary protocol, and optional AES data encryption, safeguard communications against data manipulation of any type. That means the wireless solution can be readily used even in critical applications in the area of process technology and power generation/distribution.
