Safe, clean and high-precision: High standards were demanded in the “Pharmaceutical & Food” category. No wonder, since the well-being and health of millions is at stake in these fields.

Yet, a process by Hecht Technologie manages to combine safety, containment and ergonomics altogether convincingly: With the High Containment drum drainage CFE, drums of various sizes can be emptied safely, hygienically and easily by the operator with the help of suction lance. Thus, working with active substances and high-end-products doesn’t have to be complicated. With simple handling by standard procedures and reproducibility through consistent handling, the containment-drum drainage scored twice. Easy validation and high reliability help to ensure the first prize for this clever application in the eyes of the jury.

Radar wins the race

The measuring technologies from conventional sensors for filling-level, flow rate or moisture, via automation concepts up to the particle analysis and particle characterization — have a strong presence at Powtech. Reason enough to consider the “Control and Automation/Particle characterization” category for its own award. Since only the one who knows best about “his own” process parameters and particle properties, can particularly affect the same and can eventually make his processes more efficient and economical.

Winners in "Control and Automation/ Particle Characterisation": 1. Vegapuls 64 by Vega (middle Freddy Vollmer), MS-80, J&M Analytik (left: Harald Nitsche); Electronic Weight Compensation (EPC) by Coperion K-Tron (Switzerland) (right Stefan Ludescher).

And the outstanding radar filling-level sensor Vegapuls 64 by Vega shows how it is totally worth it: The winner in the MSR-Technology/Particle characterization category goes completely the new way and does not measure with the current measuring frequency of 26 GHz but with 80 GHz. This feature enables a better focusing, small antennas and a large dynamic range. Therefor, it offers a higher measurement accuracy in case of foam, turbulent filler surfaces, condensation and adherence to the antennas.

The launch of Vegapuls 64 confirmed globally that all the difficulties faced by the radar measurement technologies are history since last December in around 200 field experiments in a wide range of applications. This opens a new chapter for radar-filling-level measurement of liquids which was appreciated by the jury with the Technology-Award.

Among others, The degree of innovation, Commercial viability and Efficiency categories were assessed in the most varied areas.
