The European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic) has shared a report in which it states that circular and low carbon economy solutions could become a competitive advantage for the EU chemical industry across the globe.

The new technology for plastic disposal and recycling belongs to ITEA. The technology involves a plastic decomposition process called ‘flameless oxy-combustion’ which is simple and flexible to use in small-sized plants.

Shell Chemicals has plans to enter the polycarbonate space as the move is in line with its growth strategy of an expanded product range. The company will be establishing polycarbonate production units in China and Singapore in order to cater to the growing number of polycarbonate customers.

The 5-kilo tonne plant will be constructed at the Chemie Park Delfzijl in the Netherlands and is expected to cost 33 million dollars. The project is anticipated to play a vital role towards the adoption of sustainable feedstock in the chemicals industry.

Evonik invested millions of Euros in this mega project which was completed on time and within budget. With the new unit, the company plans to increase production and focus on developing innovative specialty chemical products for the silicone and nanotechnologies markets.

Under the agreement, Borealis is all set to acquire Nova Chemicals’ 50 % ownership interest in the Novealis JV. Both the parties expect the transaction to close in early 2020.

L&T Technology Services has won an EPCM contract by one of the leading plastics, chemicals and refining manufacturers for the expansion of an existing plant in Europe. The expansion work is expected to be carried out at the customer’s brownfield unit in Germany.

Clariant has licensed its sunliquid cellulosic ethanol technology to Anhui Guozhen Group and Chemtex Chemical Engineering for establishing a commercial cellulosic ethanol facility in China. The plant is expected to handle a production capacity of 50.000 tonnes of cellulosic ethanol annually.
