Covestro has started up a new world-scale plant in Spain to produce chlorine with the help of the energy efficient ODC (oxygen depolarized cathode) technology. The new project will aim to strengthen the European MDI production of the company in the region.

Lanxess has plans to source sustainable raw materials from Covestro, which have a significantly reduced carbon footprint, to produce key basic chemicals at its Lower Rhine sites in Germany. The partnership will result in reducing CO2 emissions by up to 120,000 tons per year at the site.

Technip Energies has bagged the Feed contract from Exxonmobil to develop the mega project which is expected to produce one billion cubic feet of low-carbon hydrogen per day. Also, more than 98 % of the associated CO2 produced by the facility is expected to be captured and permanently stored.
