Defying the economic crisis and bucking the trend — the innovation of exhibitors at Powtech and TechnoPharm is still a force to be reckoned with. This was demonstrated yet again this year, with over 50 applications for the Innovation Award submitted for judging by the PROCESS jury. It was the third time that the trade publication was presenting these coveted awards in seven categories:

  • Plant Engineering and Processing Components
  • Basic Processing Technologies for Powder and Bulk Solids
  • Particle/Material Analysis and Characterization
  • Instrumentation/Automation
  • Environmental Technology/Safety Technology/Explosion Protection
  • Filling/Packaging Technology
  • Pharmaceutical Technology.

More than 100 people crowded around in the exhibitor forum in Hall 5 on the first evening of the trade fair to find out who would have the honor of taking home the trophies for the most innovative products and developments. In his introduction, Chief Editor and Publisher Gerd Kielburger emphasized the high number of applications which had been received and the standard of innovations, and briefly outlined the selection criteria. In addition to novelty value — the products had to be under twelve months old — the panel of judges had worked with a list of criteria including degree of innovation, cost-effectiveness, existing commercial benefit for users and the professionalism of the application, and allocated different percentage points to these aspects in the judging process.
