Reuters reports that a furnace exploded during a unit restart at Venezuela’s largest refining complex, injuring two workers.
Punto/Fijo/Venezuela — According to the news agency's sources, the explosion occurred on Tuesday night at the naphtha reformer of the Cardon refinery on the Paraguana peninsula. Reuters quotes union leader Ivan Freites as saying that the naphtha reformer and one of the furnaces exploded.
The state-run company Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) did not confirm any details concerning the incident.
Cardon refinery is the largest refining complex in Venezuela and one of the largest in the world with a capacity of 955,000 bpd.
