Driverless Vehicles and Dust-Proof Docking

If the mixers or other points to be supplied are not in a straight line such that they can be served easily by a single conveyor, automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) offer an interesting alternative. In this case, an AGV controlled by optical or ultrasound sensors drives to the dosing points and collects the raw materials as they are weighed out. Accuracy of ±100 g is achievable with a batch size of 500 kg, while smaller quantities can weighed to gramme precision.

Radio transponders and infrared interfaces ensure exact positioning and secure exchange of data with the control system. The use of two parking positions avoids the need for AGVs to queue when transferring full containers or returning empty ones. The required number of AGVs and the appropriate routes and guidance systems are determined with the help of simulation.

The new Azo CleanDock is an inexpensive docking system which combines two important functions: dust-proof docking and simultaneous decoupling of the weighing scale. This is a reliable way to prevent cross-contamination, and dust emission is a thing of the past during both dosing and container transport. When not docked, the dosing unit and the container to be filled are sealed; the action of docking creates a dust-proof connection between the two.

CleanDock is a versatile solution which works equally well with Azo’s container systems, feed hoppers and pneumatically fed receivers with dosing screws. The simple technical principle makes this an economical solution, while sophisticated execution ensures that the CleanDock requires little maintenance and is easy to clean.
