From Batch to Fed-Batch Distillation

Beside the tested, pure batch distillation, Prosim Batch Column even allows to simulate fed-batch distillations. Compared to the application of Prosim Batch Column alone, its combination with Inosim Process Edition software allows to show the complete process (i.e., all process steps, from reaction/fermentation up to the distillation of products and solvents).

Compared to the application of Inosim Process Edition alone, the integration of Prosim Batch Column allows an up to now unequaled degree of detail in mass and energy balances for distillation steps in batch and semi-batch processing in the simulation.

Another aspect is that distillation steps always consume a lot of energy (heating steam/cooling water), thus being crucial for productions costs and ecological efficiency. These factors can be predicted precisely by applying the new, integrated tool.

Engineers will get Additional Depth of Detailing

Furthermore, distillation steps which are applied within product purification are crucial to the production output that can be generated, hence defining the achievable income. The integrated Prosim/Inosim tool makes it possible to calculate the achievable production output much more precisely than ever before.

Last but not least, in solvent recycling the number of distillation steps is crucial to the amount of solvent which can be recycled and later be reused.

That also generates an impact to the operating costs of a process. The recyclable amount and eventual enrichments of components in the system during the recirculation can be predicted much better by the integrated Inosim-Prosim tool than by stand-alone solutions.

In addition to the extension from batch to fed-batch distillation, the co-operation partners are even projecting an interface to integrate the Prosim tool Batch Reactor with Inosim Process Edition. This will make possible an additional depth of detailing not only in the distillation area, but also with product conversion.

Prosim Batch Reactor cannot only be applied with chemical reactors, but also with fermentations. Now, the new tool will be executable interbranch in chemicals, pharma, and biotech.
