The slight problem is that the people who use or want the actionable information now available are not the process engineers, and possibly not the normal Emerson contacts. Plus the relevant staff might not even be on the plant, but in a service centre elsewhere. Sonnenberg had opened their Global Users Exchange conference talking about Emerson being a “Trusted Advisor” and a member of their customer’s team: they want to help
demonstrate and develop this capability in co-operation with users, and one approach is to build integrated operations (iOps) centres that offer “a way to bring together all kinds of information from multiple operations, and make that information available not just to operators but also to specialists like reliability experts who can analyze and troubleshoot problems from halfway around the world.”
Sonnenberg continued: “We’ve built an iOps centre in our facility in Austin, Texas, so that we will be able to demonstrate these capabilities to you.” Peter Zornio advised that the centre will be opened for such demonstrations in January next year.
The European version of the Emerson Global Users Exchange, for customers in Europe, Middle East and Africa, will be held from April 1-3 in Stuttgart. With that schedule, we can expect a challenging opening presentation, as long as it is held before noon!
