Wash in Place Wash In Place Fluid Bed Equipment

Editor: Dominik Stephan

It's a common trend in the industry to equip production plants with automatic cleaning and washing equipment. Now Glatt presents a fluid bed unit for granulation and pelletizing processes with an integrated wash in place (WIP) solution at this year's Powtech: the ProCell LabSystem.

The mobile lab unit now comes with cleaning nozzles in the filter plate and in the processing chamber, which clean the unit without the need to open it. The ProCell system can be used with two different filter types – pleated cartridges and washable filter bags. The Cartridges, nevertheless, are only precleaned in the unit – the narrow places in the pleats must be cleaned manually. This procedure still has the advantage that the operator does not have to not get in contact with the dry dust, Glatt says. Filter bags can be cleaned completely within the device. The efficiency of these cleaning approaches differs according to the used bulk product: Sticky or swelling materials may not be washed out by the WIP completely. Therefor, Glatt says, a laboratory sized WIP solution can help to gather important experience for later scale–up processes.
