A current application example from the experts of Durit in the field of drilling technology in the oil and gas industry has set the task to strongly reduce abrasive wear to the drill head. The choice of the suitable sort of tungsten carbide resulted from a detailed analysis of the wear pattern and the geometry of all applied parts and components.

In order to economize on investment costs, not all secondarily affected components were replaced, but advanced by flame-sprayed surfaces made of tungsten carbide or aluminium oxide, depending on the degree of exposure. Now only one maintenance appointment for replacing all applied wear components is required.
