Installation in an Easy Way

Installation is simple: The adapter can be connected to an Ex d field device either directly or via a conduit, or mounted to a terminal box via a cable gland.

In Ex-d-to-Ex-d configurations such as this, devices and all components on the adapter side that can cause ignition are installed in housings equipped with corresponding cable ducts. These housings are able to withstand the internal explosion pressure that could occur.

As a result of this, it is no longer necessary to restrict current and voltage in the design of an intrinsically safe circuit or use Zener barriers to such an extent that the minimum ignition energy and ignition temperature of an explosive mixture are not reached. There is also no need to install the adapter outside of the explosion-hazardous area — especially as there is no risk of electrostatic charge.

The aluminum housing of the Bullet not only meets requirements in terms of explosion protection, but is also designed for use under the harshest mechanical and environmental conditions. It encapsulates all electronic components including the antenna, which is protected under a plastic dome — and is thus extremely well protected against any possible damage.

Ideal for Ex Zone Applications

Another feature that makes the adapter ideal for use in ambient conditions in process equipment is the fact that it can easily be cleaned as required without electrostatic charge building up in the adapter dome — an important feature for explosion-hazardous areas. The multidrop procedure is popular in applications where time is not a critical factor due to slowly changing measurement results, e.g. in a tank farm.

After all, in this case, the “slow” update rate is not a significant issue due to the maximum number of devices connected. In applications such as these, the adapter can be connected to and transfer data from up to eight field devices. With the multidrop procedure, significant savings can be achieved for each measurement point and a high degree of investment security is guaranteed.

A Variety of Supply Options for Maximum Flexibility

If the plant already features a 24 V power supply, the adapter and field device can be powered by this supply and transfer data to the process control system wirelessly.
