Sumitomo Chemical is constructing a new plant in Japan which will produce 1,3-diisopropanolbenzene and supply it to Nouryon as it’s a vital raw material for the production of the company’s Perkadox 14 organic peroxide.

The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research, TNO has acquired Avantium’s bioaromatics business which includes patents and know-how of technologies that produce bio-derived products for polymers and coatings.

Nouryon’s carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) polymer – Akupure aims at improving the performance of lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles. The polymer meets the superior purity requirement for these specialised batteries which enables it to increase the efficiency of the batteries.

The European project RES Urbis (Resources from Urban Bio-waste), showed that different biowaste produced in an urban environment can be treated within the same chain of valorisation. It can be used to obtain products with biological origins, such as bioplastics, with a higher economic value than that of compost and biogas.

The move to acquire Mahoney Environmental is in line with Neste’s growth strategy and will enable the company to strengthen its position in renewable raw material sourcing. The deal will also act as a platform for the firm to grow its raw material supply chain in North America.

The study has been carried out for the fourth time by Ceresana and it forecasts that around 58 % of all paints and coatings will be used in the construction industry by 2027. Also, the demand for it in the industrial product segment is also expected to grow around 1.2 % per year.

The renewable polypropylene will be produced at Borealis’ production facilities in Kallo and Beringen, Belgium. The move supports the company’s Ever Minds venture which aims to boost the circular economy concept.

Completion of a US $ 110 million expansion: After the commissioning of a 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate production in Bayport and the opening of an acrylic acid capacity expansion in Clear Lake, the start-up of a 45 KT methyl acrylate plant represents the last phase of the revamping activities for Arkema’s acrylics business.

Versalis’ ‘Hoop’ project focuses on the development of a new technology to chemically recycle plastic waste and produce new virgin polymers. The company also has plans to set up a 6,000 tonne facility in Italy which will actively make use of this technology.

Invista’s new 400 kilo-tonne-per-annum adiponitrile facility is expected to be integrated with the recently completed hexamethylenediamine plant and nylon 6,6 polymer facility to produce nylon 6,6 and other high-value products in China.
