Sabic has collaborated with confectionery major Mars and leading provider of environmental and chemical compliance services Landbell for flexible food packaging. Sabic’s certified circular polypropylene will be used to pack Mars’ Kind snack bar.

Under a MOU signed between both the parties, Lyondell Basell and Shakti Plastic Industries will develop a fully-automated, mechanical recycling plant in India which is expected to produce 50.000 tonnes of recycled polyethylene and polypropylene annually.

Borealis has launched its proprietary Borstar Nextension technology which is claimed to be a step change for performance-based polyolefins. The Borstar Nextension catalysts are being produced at a new plant at Borealis’ existing site in Porvoo, Finland.

Borealis has plans to utilize its Borcycle M technology in the development of a unique, first-of-its-kind commercial-scale advanced mechanical recycling plant in Schwechat, Austria. The plant is expected to produce over 60 kilo tonnes of circular solutions and compounds annually and will commence operations in 2025.

Solvay and Orbia have entered into a joint venture under which both the parties will develop the largest polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) production facility for battery materials in North America. The 850-million-dollar project will be partially funded by a grant to Solvay from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Eni and Enel Green Power have plans to develop two green hydrogen projects in Italy under its joint venture South Italy Green Hydrogen. The European Commission has approved a funding of 5.2 billion euros under its Ipcei Hy2use fund for the development of both the projects.

Lummus Technology’s Novolen PP technology has been selected by Lihuayi Weiyuan Chemical Co. for its new polypropylene plant in Shandong Province, China. The company will also carry out basic design engineering, training and services for the project.

Neste, Idemitsu Kosan, Chimei and Mitsubishi Corporation have come together to develop a unique renewable plastics supply chain which will make use of bio-based hydrocarbons (Neste Re) for the production of styrene monomer (bio-SM), and its mass balanced renewable plastics derivatives including acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (bio-ABS) for the production of renewable plastics.

Under the terms of the agreement, Lyondell Basell and 23 Oaks Investments, a solution provider in the upcycling of PCR plastic waste, will establish a joint venture called Source One Plastics. The JV will aim to develop an advanced plastic waste sorting and recycling facility in Germany which will produce processed waste for Lyondell Basell’s new advanced recycling plant in Wesseling, Germany.

Solid-state batteries are termed as the next generation of batteries for electric vehicles due to their many plus points over traditional lithium-ion batteries including higher energy density, quick charge and safer operations. The first player in the market to mass-produce these batteries will enjoy a significant advantage over its competitors, thus, chemical companies are also looking to develop unique solutions for these batteries.
