Finland – Neste Engineering Solutions and Mainstream Pine Products have entered into a Nexpinus technology licensing agreement for a greenfield CTO fractionation facility to be built in Charleston International Manufacturing Center, South Carolina, USA. In addition to licensing of technology, Neste Engineering Solutions will also provide professional support services to the project execution which will be performed by main contractor Pegasus TSI. The project targets to reach mechanical completion and start-up in 2023.

The facility based on the Nexpinus-technology, will serve as the centerpiece of Mainstream’s strategy to become the highest quality, lowest cost producer of CTO derivatives in North America. Neste Engineering Solutions' proprietary Nexpinus technology can be tailored to handle a wide range of CTO feedstock and is developed to produce high-quality tall oil products at maximized yields and low energy consumption.

“We are very pleased to announce our project and selection of Neste Engineering Solutions as our provider for technology and related expertise,” says Rob Helwick, president and CEO of Mainstream Pine Products. “We believe the general population prefers renewable products, and this biorefinery acknowledges the world’s increasing demand for more sustainable goods. The increasing demand for renewable, non-food source materials led us to search for the best technology, which enables us to expand our operations to the right direction. It is important for us to develop our line of renewable products in a facility that meets the most rigorous environmental standards.”
