Interview: Automation India Keep Being Demanding! Siemens CEO Kaul About the Indian Automation Market
In the Indian automation sector, Siemens has its distinguishable presence. In a conversation with PROCESS India, Karlheinz Kaul, Global CEO, Siemens Industry Automation Control Equipment, is describing the changing trend in demand from the user community and how the company is preparing itself to address those. Bhaskar Mandal, VP, Siemens Industry Automation, South Asia is facilitating the meeting.
PROCESS India: How is Siemens gearing up to cater to the process industry?
KARLHEINZ KAUL: We are focusing very much on the vertical markets, such as – chemical, pharmaceutical, food & beverage (F&B), water & waste water, oil & gas (O&G) etc. These are the drivers of growth for the future.
If we can build up knowledge in the applications of our customers in these segments, then we will be able to support them in a much better way with our automation products and solutions – because every customer wants to talk to an expert. Therefore, our priority is to build up the best process knowhow – to be the best possible partner to our valued customers.
Thus, we are investing heavily on building skill for process applications. For example, (say) for the pharmaceutical industry, we have to ensure that our products are fulfilling all the dedicated demands of our customers.
Energy Efficiency and Safety for Indian Automation Market
But in addition, it is important that we fulfil all the safety requirements of the process industry. We provide maximum energy efficiency to our customers. Product and process reliability is very important to us, and as most of our customers are going global these days, we are not only applying the local – but also the international standards to our products.
PROCESS India: What do you exactly mean by fulfiling dedicated demands?
KAUL: We have standard products, but (say) if any customer has a different (say) environmental condition in his plant, we will definitely modify our product to fulfil the special requirement. But it is not enough (for us) to just change a product; we will consider to understand the whole application to find out what is missing – which additional hardware or software is required to cater to the whole vertical market.
Automation Solutions Based on The Customer's Needs and Capacities
PROCESS India: Do you offer any financial support to Indian SMEs opting for plant automation?
KAUL: We offer solutions – product wise, process wise, and based on the financial capacity of the user. We have our Siemens Financial Services (SFS), where customers can discuss what can be supported by SFS.
