PROCESS: How would you describe your management style?
Van Meirvenne: (laughs) Impatient. I have a tendency to get things on the move quickly. Of course I don’t do that without asking the employees for their opinion. It is important for me to know that the people in my organization enjoy their work. You will only get the performance you are looking for if the entire setup is right, just like a soccer team. I believe that getting things right on an international scale is one of my most important tasks.
PROCESS: Has the arrival of a new CEO at Bayer changed anything in terms of your responsibilities or ROI parameters?
Van Meirvenne: Our role in the corporation is technology and innovation driven, and we will have to continually improve within the defined framework.
PROCESS: Where do you want to take BTS over the next three to five years?
Van Meirvenne: BTS will have a clearly defined portfolio, and it will be a global player — that is my ambition. The company will be focused on providing technology solutions for the corporation, and it will act as technology partner for industry, driving the development of highly sophisticated and differentiated solutions. The strategy includes true partnerships which are forged to develop top-class technologies that generate value-add for our partners and for us. Thanks to the work done by my predecessor, we are well on the way to achieving that.
PROCESS:Dr. Van Meirvenne, thank you for taking the time to talk with us.
