From the material store, the coils then set off on the way to production. In an initial processing step, the belts are prepared and tested for quality: specially-trained experts with long years of experience classify the raw material for each customer-specific area of application.
Customising Steel Conveyor Belts
Here it is already clear: Berndorf has pledged itself to the highest quality standards. “Every belt we deliver is traceable all the way back to the raw material,” Garherr assured us.
In the meantime, a metallic singing is heard throughout the production hall: on the levelling machine, the belts are levelled after inspection to ensure perfect flatness and straight running. The gigantic machines work with tensional forces of up to twice 100 tonnes — an impressive spectacle! The desired belt width is set afterwards by precise trimming of belt egdes before a decisive production step follows — the exact preparation of the belt ends. This is the be-all and end-all for the endless welding at the in-house laser welding installation and for the endless welding on site at the customer’s premises.

High-Gloss Polished Belts— a Berndorf Speciality
A speciality at Berndorf Band is the manufacture of high-gloss polished belts for the film and foil industry. In polishing, the endless belt receives the finished touches: even the smallest irregularities are recognised using the most up-to-date measuring technology.
For particularly wide belts, such as the two-metre wide or even wider cooling belts for the pastillisation of sulfur, there is, besides the endless welding, also a weld along its length to achieve the required width — a production step that Berndorf has optimised to the point of perfection. The user will search in vain for the longitudial welding seam in a polished belt. A good example of how “Berndorf stands for a large number of innovations which the user does not see,” explains Garherr. These include the special heat treatment, which improves substantially the tensile strength and hardness of belts for special purposes. Last, but not least, each belt is subjected to a further, exacting quality test after the final processing.
Incidentally: all belt production machines are developed by Berndorf themselves. Here the responsibility rests with Berndorf Band Engineering, a subsidiary of Berndorf Band — another guarantee for know-how and quality.
