“Careful, not too close to the belt please,” warns Heinrich Garherr, Regional Director Sales, Marketing & Business Development. And he knows what he is talking about: what had just been dazzling the visitor a moment ago — shining like silver in the first spring sun — becomes, if one changes the angle of observation, a paper-thin, almost invisible, razor-sharp danger. This first impression is enough to make it clear: it may be “only” a steel belt, but the know-how behind it is without compare.

No Two Steel Belt Installations Are Identical

We find ourselves in the production halls of Berndorf Band in Berndorf in Lower Austria, situated idyllically on the edge of the Vienna Forest. From this point, the endless metal belts make their way, as process and transport belts, across the whole world.

At the same time, no two belt installations are identical. For “each installation is specially matched to the customer’s requirements,” emphasises Garherr. Even before the production process, detailed consultations are held with the customer in order to be sure that the belts meet all the demands. This is when they define the belt specifications on the basis of which the materials are selected.
