New Manufacturing Plant Coperion to Manufacture Screw–Extruders in Nanjing, China
Coperion moves its Chinese extruder production to a new location: By February 2015, the company will have located to a new facility in the Nanjing Jiangning District. It's current production site in China will focus on R&D and Technology, Coperion explained.
Nanjing/PR China – The new Coperion plant in Nanjing with a footprint of more than 15,000 m² will continue to focus on manufacturing the STS and CTE twin screw extruder series. In order to serve Coperion’s manufacturing needs the new building is designed with the following features: the most advanced machinery production technology with engineering and manufacturing know-how from Coperion Stuttgart, Germany, and an optimized, tailor-made workshop layout for highly efficient production. A center with new German-made CNC machines and centralized air conditioning to ensure the high machining precision will also be integrated as well as new advanced manufacturing machines.
To ensure sustainable quality in the manufacturing process, Coperion deploys its quality system processes to its manufacturing site in Nanjing. A new quality control center is being established, equipped with high-precision equipment for 3-dimensional inspection and barrel leakage testing. It is completed by barrel washing equipment, chemical composite analyzer, magnetic detector and hardness tester to ensure alignment after assembly. The entire production process is closely monitored, using German high-precision, high-level production and quality measuring machinery and equipment. Coperion Nanjing’s quality assurance team will continue to be supported by experts from Coperion Stuttgart, Germany.
Newly Equipped Test Center for Compounding Applications
The Coperion Nanjing test center, currently equipped with a STS 35 and a STS 50 compounder, will be extended with comprehensive upstream and downstream equipment, including material handling, to provide customer process tests. In order to be able to offer customers a broader variety of application tests and increase testing capacity, a new ZSK 32 Mc18 twin screw extruder with 18 Nm/cm³ torque will join the two existing STS compounders in late 2015 for tests, simulation and scale-up.
“Coperion’s new Nanjing manufacturing plant is another step forward for Coperion and reflects the importance of Coperion Nanjing to our business” says Thomas Kehl, President of Coperion. “It is an investment in the future and a clear commitment to the STS Mc11 twin screw extruder series. Coperion Nanjing will play a more important role in the Coperion network not only as an extruder manufacturing site but also from a customer service point-of-view. We are grateful to the Government of Jiangning Economic & Technology Development Zone, who actively supported us in finding a new site that perfectly matches our needs.”
Ms. Joanne Shen, Coperion Nanjing’s Managing Director adds: “The new plant in the Nanjing Jiangning District strengthens our footprint in the Chinese and Asian market. We are proud of the new shop floor that will be designed in an efficient and professional way. Our manufacturing area will be equipped with a significant number of German-made machining centers as well as quality control equipment supporting our latest quality offensive. And the new test lab will be upgraded with a high-end extruder from Coperion’s ZSK Mc18 series. All these changes show Coperion’s commitment to our Nanjing plant and underscore high expectations for future development.”
