Paraxylene: Technology Contract CB&I Provides Paraxylene–Technology for Indian Reliance Industries
CB&I has been awarded a contract by Reliance Industries for providing technology for the world’s largest aromatics complex to be built at Jamnagar, Gujarat, India.
Woodlands, USA - The complex includes proprietary BP paraxylene technology offered for license exclusively by Lummus Technology, which uses a novel crystallization step and other features to provide for low capital and operating costs.
"Our role as the exclusive licensor for BP's paraxylene technology is another example of how strategic collaborations are an effective approach for global producers like Reliance," said CB&I President and CEO Philip K. Asherman. "Combined with the expertise of CB&I's Lummus Technology business sector, this technology provides the optimal solution in terms of cost and reliability."
With the new 100.000 tons/year butyl rubber project underway, Jamnagar could well become a future petrochemical hub. The so called 'Oil City of India' is home to the currently biggest refinery of the world (production capacity around 1.2 million barrels per day), operated by India's biggest independent refiner Reliance Industries (a five percent stake of the refinery is held by Chevron). A second smaller refinery at Jamnagar is operated by Essar Oil. More about the project in New Indian Butyl Rubber Production Could Overcome the Country's Import Dependency.
