An Actuator–Friendly Setup

As part of a new actuator concept, the valves can now be combined with Bürkert’s Element actuators and control heads. As a new part of the Element family of products, Robolux has become an integral part of a complete systems approach to process problems. The Element series combines the chemical characteristics of engineered polymers with the beauty and endurance of stainless steel housings to create a rugged and hygienic platform.

The intelligent combination of Robolux multi-port valves with Element actuators and type 8681 control heads opens up a wealth of new possibilities for the decentralized automation of hygienic processes. By integrating all required automation functions into the fittings themselves, the new concept provides an extremely compact alternative to the use of central switching cabinets.

Ready for Automation

The valves at field level can be equipped with automation components including feedback units and optical status indicators, fieldbus interfaces, and even positioners and process controllers. The full benefits come from the use of AS-interface (ASi) as a fieldbus interface: this requires just a single two-wire cable for power supply, feedback and communications between a PLC and up to 62 valves.

In such a decentralized automation system the control head of each valve performs all pneumatic actuation, feedback and diagnostic functions, as well as bus communication. An integral three-color LED status display ensures high visibility at the field level. In addition to electrical feedback to the master controller, the control head also signals the current position of the valve to facilitate diagnosis and maintenance. Diagnostic functions such as required maintenance or errors are likewise signaled visually and can be viewed in detail via a service interface.
