New York City has sued oil majors Exxon Mobil, Shell, BP and the lobby group – American Petroleum Institute for misleading advertising and deceptive business practices. The corporations systematically misrepresented their role in climate pollution through PR campaigns, Mayor of New York city Bill de Blasio announced recently.

Under a commercial cooperation agreement signed between Lummus Technology and Texplore, Lummus Technology will license Texplore’s Excene HDPE technology. Asahi Kasei, Microwave Chemical have plans to conduct a joint demonstration project for chemical recycling of Polyamide 66 using the microwave technology. With this project, the firms aim to depolymerize PA66 and directly obtain the HMD and ADA monomers at high yields and a low energy consumption.

Under the ‘Plasco2 project’, Evonik along with its three partners aim to turn the greenhouse gas CO2 into a raw material which can then be used for the production of C4 chemicals. The partners are working together to extract synthesis gas from CO2 and hydrogen by means of a plasma reactor using a newly developed process.

Yara along with Enbridge have plans to jointly develop a mega low-carbon blue ammonia production facility in Texas, USA. The project is expected to have a production capacity of 1.2–1.4 million tons of low-carbon ammonia per year.

Chevron has plans to establish a new carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in San Joaquin Valley, California. CO2 post-combustion capture equipment will also be installed by the firm with an aim to decarbonize and reduce its carbon intensity.

BP has entered into strategic partnerships with Adnoc and Masdar for its blue hydrogen project, H2Teesside as well as its green hydrogen project, Hygreen Teesside respectively in the UK. Under the contracts, the Gulf firms will acquire stake in both the projects with an aim to develop low carbon hydrogen hubs in the country.

A feasibility study has been awarded to Aker Carbon Capture under which the firm will focus on the development of two carbon capture plants for Röhm. The project will aim to capture nearly 500,000 tons CO2 per year.
