Kemira has recently joined the Renewable Carbon Initiative which focuses on speeding up the transition from fossil carbon to renewable carbon for all organic chemicals and materials. By associating with the initiative, Kemira aims at advancing innovative sustainability practices with a focus on promoting circularity and a bio-based economy.

SGP Bioenergy has plans to establish Latin America’s largest renewable fuels plant in Panama. For this project, the company has selected Topsoe to support the production of low-carbon fuels. Once complete, the biorefinery is expected to produce 180,000 barrels per day of sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel, and 405,000 metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually.

Fluor has secured a front-end engineering as well as a detailed design, engineering and procurement services contract to establish a new renewable diesel unit for Imperial’s major renewable diesel complex at its Strathcona refinery in Alberta, Canada. Expected to produce approximately 20,000 barrels of renewable diesel daily, the project is expected to be the largest renewable diesel production facility in Canada.

HIF Global will develop the e-fuels plant in Matagorda County in Texas, USA and the project is expected to produce 200 million gallons of carbon-neutral gasoline annually. Construction of the plant will begin by 2023 and first production is scheduled for 2026.

Federated Co-Operatives Ltd has selected Topsoe’s Hydroflex process for its new renewable diesel plant in Saskatchewan, Canada. On completion, the facility is expected to produce 15,000 barrels per day of low-carbon renewable diesel.

The Renewable Carbon Initiative (RCI) has welcomed the European Commission’s ‘Communication on Sustainable Carbon Cycles’ which focusses on the necessary measures for achieving climate neutrality in 2050. RCI has even called for implementation of its important measures.

Cepsa will be investing a hefty amount of 3-billion-euros to establish the largest green hydrogen hub in Europe. In addition to this, the firm will invest another 2-billion-euros to develop a 3 GW portfolio of wind and solar energy projects in order to generate renewable electricity for the project.

Adnoc and Gail (India) have entered into a MOU to explore LNG supply and decarbonization opportunities. The agreement also includes the potential optimization of LNG trading activities, the review of joint equity investments in renewables and the monitoring of greenhouse gasses for LNG cargoes.

Shell has plans to acquire Nature Energy, a Denmark-based producer of renewable natural gas. On completion of this deal, Shell will acquire Europe’s largest RNG producer, its portfolio of cash generative operating plants, associated feedstock supply and infrastructure, its pipeline of growth projects and its in-house RNG plant technology.

Neste, Idemitsu Kosan, Chimei and Mitsubishi Corporation have come together to develop a unique renewable plastics supply chain which will make use of bio-based hydrocarbons (Neste Re) for the production of styrene monomer (bio-SM), and its mass balanced renewable plastics derivatives including acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (bio-ABS) for the production of renewable plastics.
