A pilot plant for cost-efficient production of green methanol was recently inaugurated at the chemical park in Leuna, Germany by the Minister for Transport Dr. Volker Wissing. The plant is part of the ‘Leuna100’ project and aims to offer climate-friendly fuels to container shipping and aviation industries.

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and the State of Rhineland-Palatinate have approved up to 124.3 million euros in funding for BASF’s 54-MW water electrolysis plant. The PEM electrolyzer is expected to produce up to 8,000 metric tons of hydrogen every year.

BP’s Archaea Energy has brought online a first of its kind renewable gas plant in Indiana, USA. The plant is based on the Archaea Modular Design which helps the unit to be built on skids.

Arkema has further decreased the carbon footprint of its bio-based Rilsan polyamide 11 grades by 46 %, reaching less than 2 kg CO2e/kg. This was made possible by the firm’s use of renewable or low carbon energy sources and by making various energy efficiency improvements in its production sites.

Repsol has selected Honeywell’s Ecofining technology to produce biofuels at its Puertollano facility in Spain. The technology is expected to provide Repsol with an efficient and high yield solution to produce renewable fuels and petrochemical precursors from residual feedstocks.

Chevron Lummus Global has started up an Isoterra unit at Chevron’s El Segundo Refinery in Southern California, USA. The unit makes use of the refinery's existing assets as well as the company’s proprietary catalyst and reactor internals technology to achieve exceptional diesel yields.

Lyondell Basell has plans to use its proprietary Moretec technology for the development of an industrial-scale advanced recycling plant in Germany. The project is expected to have an annual capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year and will recycle plastic packaging waste from the country.

Under an agreement signed between both the parties, BASF will gain long-term access to Qore’s bio-based BDO which is made from renewable feedstock. With this, BASF aims to expand its portfolio with bio-based BDO derivatives, including polytetrahydrofuran and tetrahydrofuran.

Lower carbon, bio-based and circular propylene glycol solutions have been launched by Dow in Europe. The move is in line with the growing demand for renewable materials which aims at reducing carbon and enabling circularity.

The feasibility study has been awarded by Man Energy Solutions and the study is expected to investigate the full integration of Aker Carbon Capture’s standardized and modularized Just Catch 100 unit into a full power-to-fuel solution.
