Lummus Technology has been selected by Korea Petrochemical Ind. Co. (KPIC) to provide a C4 acetylenes selective hydrogenation unit to its Onsan chemical plant in Ulsan, Republic of Korea. The new unit, which is part of the plant’s expansion plan, is expected to process 37,000 MTA of feed, leading to higher production rates of butadiene and raffinate products. The new unit will also prevent the burning of the byproduct stream resulting in lower emissions.

The unique crude oil steam-cracking technology has the ability to convert crude oil directly into ethylene, propylene and other chemical products. The successful trail marks the first industrial application of the crude oil steam-cracking technology in China and will pave the way for transforming China's petrochemical industry. The technology will also significantly shorten the production process, lower production costs and reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Haldor Topsoe and Green Fuel have signed a MOU under which both the companies will jointly work together to identify efficient and scalable technologies for green ammonia production in Iceland. Green Fuel has also secured a Letter of Intent to operate at the Bakki Eco-Industrial Park in north-east Iceland.

Air Liquide has acquired 100 % stake in H2V Normandy (now called Normand’Hy) and with this development the company aims to build a 200 MW PEM electrolyzer in Port-Jérôme, France for the production of renewable hydrogen which will be used for industrial and heavy mobility applications. The firm will connect the electrolyzer to its hydrogen pipeline network in Normandy, which will lead to the development of the world’s first low-carbon hydrogen network.

Phillips 66 and Plug Power have entered into a MOU under which both the companies will work towards scaling low-carbon hydrogen in the industrial and mobility sectors and developing hydrogen-related infrastructure. The company is currently establishing green hydrogen production facilities in the USA in order to supply 500 tons per day of liquid green hydrogen by 2025.

Advanced Biofuel Solutions (ABSL) and Greenergy have entered into a joint development agreement to develop and operate up to five municipal waste-based biofuel plants in the UK over a period of time. The first plant is expected to commence in 2025 and will use will make use of ABSL’s RadGas technology to convert 133,000 tons of municipal waste annually into biomethane.

Air Products has plans to establish a 4.5-billion-dollar energy complex in Louisiana, USA which is expected to produce over 750 MMSCFD of blue hydrogen. The mega project is the company’s largest-ever investment in the U.S. and will also feature the world’s largest instance of CO2 capture for permanent sequestration.

Ineos intends to develop electrolysis projects across Europe in order to produce green hydrogen. The first facilities are expected to come up in Norway, Germany, and Belgium while investments are also being planned in the UK and France. The hefty investment is claimed to be Europe’s largest in electrolysis projects.

From May 14 to 18, 2018, the world's leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management, Ifat, will take place in Munich. The exhibitors and an extensive framework programme will provide information about new developments for an optimized water supply and the treatment of wastewater and liquid waste.

Sasol will be leading a feasibility study to explore the potential of the Boegoebaai project in South Africa as an export hub for green hydrogen and ammonia. The study which is expected to be concluded in two years will determine the project’s next move.
