With an aim to reduce industry emissions, ExxonMobil has plans to develop a hydrogen production plant along with one of the world’s largest carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects at its Baytown site in Texas, USA.

Under a collaboration agreement signed between Plug Power, Atlas Copco and Fives, new hydrogen liquefaction plants will be developed in the USA which will also make use of the cryogenic process technology to reduce the cost of liquified hydrogen by 25 %.

A new study by Fertilizers Europe and Dechema has revealed that CO2 emissions from ammonia production in Europe could be reduced by almost a fifth in 2030. It also highlights that the adoption of blue hydrogen in the production of ammonia could lead to a reduction of 3,000 kt of CO2 emissions annually from 2030 onwards.

Maire Tecnimont has been awarded an EPCM contract by a major chemical producer for developing a blue ammonia plant in the USA. The project is expected to be completed by 2025.

DNV together with 18 industry leaders have collaborated to launch a new Joint Industry Project to enhance the standardization for safe and cost-efficient hydrogen production systems that use electrolysis powered by renewable energy to produce green hydrogen. A certification scheme is also being developed for electrolyzer projects.

Mitsubishi Power Americas has ordered 40 electrolyzers from HydrogenPro to produce green hydrogen which will be used for power generation, transportation and industrial applications. With this move, the companies aim to deploy utility-scale green hydrogen in the U.S. in order to support the country to achieve its global decarbonization targets.

In line with BASF’s ambitious climate targets announced earlier, the company has now come up with a detailed action plan to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 25 % by 2030 and aims to reach its goal of net zero emissions globally by 2050.

The new large-scale facility is expected to produce up to 1.2 million tons of green ammonia annually and will be built under a 50:50 joint venture between Scatec and the Acme Group in the Duqm Special Economic Zone of Oman.

Air Products and the Hamburg Port Authority have entered into a MOU to explore the potential of developing a hydrogen value chain across the port of Hamburg in Germany. The collaboration aims to increase the production, supply chain and consumption of hydrogen in the region.

Under a long-term agreement signed between Linde and BASF, Linde will build and operate a new hydrogen production facility at Chalampé, France in order to supply hydrogen and steam to BASF’s new hexamethylenediamine manufacturing facility in the country.
