Solvay has established the new electronic grade facility at its Bernburg site in Germany for producing high-purity hydrogen peroxide. With its new production line (EG20), the company aims to become one of the leading suppliers to the European semiconductor industry.

The hydrogen pilot project is being carried out in a commercial scale cogeneration plant for the first time in Belgium. The move is expected to gradually replace natural gas by hydrogen for generating electricity and heat.

With an investment of 5.4 billion dollars, Enegix Energy has launched the Base One green hydrogen project in collaboration with the State Government of Ceará, Brazil. The mega plant is expected to produce over 600 million kg of green hydrogen annually.

Johnson Matthey (JM) has been selected to provide its methanol technology to the Haru Oni project, the world’s maiden methanol unit in Patagonia, Chile. The pilot phase of the project is expected to produce around 900,000 liters per year of e-methanol as early as 2022.

Air Liquide’s JV firm Air Liquide Munay Tech Gases has plans to make the hefty investment in order to acquire hydrogen and nitrogen production units in Kazakhstan from Kazmunaygas’ Atyrau refinery.

Under a MOU signed between Engie and Equinor, both the partners will explore the development of low-carbon hydrogen value chains in Belgium, the Netherlands and France. They will also examine the market potential for hydrogen from natural gas wherein the CO2 will be captured and stored offshore.

The German Machinery and Plant Manufacturers Association (VDMA) has recently revealed that new orders booked by members of the VDMA Large Industrial Plant Manufacturers´ Group (AGAB) in 2020 were 35 % below the previous year’s level however, industry players are optimistic that there will be an upswing in 2021.

Mitsubishi has entered the MOU along with three other parties – Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation, the Bandung Institute of Technology and PT Panca Amara Utama. Together, all of them will carry out a joint study for CCS and carbon dioxide utilization in order to produce clean fuel ammonia in Indonesia.

The large-scale manufacturing facility is expected to have an electrolyzer production capacity of 500 MW per year which can be expandable to 5 GW. Work on the unit will begin in 2022 and will be operational by 2023.

Eni’s new biomass treatment unit was launched 18 months ago and has recently started production. Located in Gela, Italy, the plant will make use of raw material waste to produce biofuels.
