The core discussion at the Water Action Platform webinar which was held on May 20, 2021 was around green hydrogen and how can the water industry use the clean energy. The webinar was hosted by Isle chairman Piers Clark and featured Dr. Jenifer Baxter, director for innovation and policy at Protium Green Solutions as well as showcased emerging hydrogen technologies from the UK and Australia.

Clariant's Megamax catalyst will be used for carrying out CO2-based methanol synthesis in China. With this move, the Asian country aims to reach its carbon neutrality target. The catalyst can be applied across a wide range of plant types and technologies.

With an aim to strengthen their collaboration on offshore wind and renewable hydrogen in Korea, Ørsted and Posco have signed a MOU. Under the terms of the agreement, Posco will help Ørsted to establish 1.6 GW offshore wind projects off the coast of Incheon City in Korea. Both the companies will also conduct feasibility studies on potential collaboration on renewable hydrogen.

With an aim to accelerate its electrolysis business, Haldor Topsoe has established a new organization which will focus exclusively on green hydrogen. Chokri Mousaoui has been appointed as Executive Vice President and head of the organization.

Sascha Kleiber from the University of Technology in Austria demonstrated a carbon capture and utilization approach in which magnesium oxide-based catalysts were produced. These catalysts can be used as a marine fuel, electricity and even as feedstock for further chemicals.

At Achema Pulse, an exclusive interview was conducted with Dr. Klaus Schäfer, Chief Technology Officer at Covestro in Germany. The focus of the interaction revolved around the concept of a fully circular economy with zero emissions and how this vision can become a reality. The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) will be building a world-scale ‘blue’ ammonia production facility at the Ta’ziz industrial ecosystem and chemicals hub in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, UAE. With an expected capacity of 1,000 kilo tons per annum, the plant will enable the company to explore opportunities in hydrogen and hydrogen carrier fuels.

The 61-million-dollar PEM electrolyzer plant will be constructed in Spain by Cummins and its partner Iberdrola along with the support from the Spanish Government. The plant will be used to produce green hydrogen and is expected to be complete by 2023.

Covenant Energy has chosen Haldor Topsoe’s Hydroflex and H2bridge technologies for its renewable diesel facility in Canada. With the help of the technologies, Covenant Energy aims to produce the cleanest renewable diesel across the globe.
