In line with the Scottish Government’s ambition of achieving net zero emissions by 2045 in the country, Ineos Grangemouth will further invest 1.37-billion-dollars in addition to the over 686 million dollars already invested at its Grangemouth site in Scotland to deliver emissions savings of more than 60 % across the site by 2030 and thus, achieve net zero emissions by 2045.

Under a MOU signed between the Port of Corpus Christi and Howard Midstream Energy Partners, both the companies will work together to convert Howard’s Javelina refinery services facility located in the Port of Corpus Christi, USA into a carbon-neutral hydrogen production facility. The project is claimed to be the region’s first carbon-neutral (blue) hydrogen production facility.

EW Höfe, Alpiq and Socar Energy Switzerland have plans to build an electrolysis facility with a capacity of up to 10 MW in Freienbach, Switzerland. If approved, the facility is expected to produce around 1000 to 1200 tons of green hydrogen, thus making the project the country’s largest production facility for green hydrogen.

Global Energy has partnered with Proman to set up the ‘Cromarty Clean Fuels Project,’ a renewable power to methanol plant at the Nigg Oil Terminal in Scotland. The new facility is expected to use local sources of captured CO2 for the production and it will also store as well as load green methanol to be exported on bulk carrier vessels.

The Emirati company Helios plans to build the Gulf state's first commercial plant for CO2-free ammonia in Abu Dhabi. Engineering planning for the green hydrogen-ammonia project has been entrusted to Thyssenkrupp.

The capacity of Mitsubishi Chemical's polyester film production in Wiesbaden, Germany, is to be expanded. The company invests approximately 110 million euros in a new production line.

Air Liquide has teamed up with Total Energies to develop low-carbon hydrogen production in the Normandy industrial basin in France. A large-scale CO2 capture and storage solution (CCS) will also be implemented at the site.

Orlen Unipetrol has revealed its development strategy until 2030 which includes the modernization of its chemical facility in Záluží near Litvínov, Czech Republic. In this project, the current boiler plant for the steam cracker’s operations is replaced with a brand-new gas boiler plant and the latest equipment for emission reduction installed at the unit has helped to lower dust emissions by 50 % and NOx emissions by 70 %.

BASF and Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd (CATL) have entered into a strategic partnership which aims at developing a sustainable battery value chain by focusing on cathode active materials (CAM) and battery recycling. CATL is also building its first European factory in Germany to localize lithium-ion battery production while BASF is constructing a cathode active materials plant in Schwarzheide, Germany.

The advanced active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing facility for small molecules will be established in Dublin, Ireland and is expected to transform the development and commercialization of new medicines.
