Under a letter of intent signed between Sumitomo and Rio Tinto, Sumitomo will assess the hydrogen pilot plant at Rio Tinto’s Yarwun alumina refinery in Gladstone, Australia. If successful, the project will produce hydrogen for the Gladstone Hydrogen Ecosystem.

Under the MOU, Mitsubishi will build a blue hydrogen plant near Edmonton in Canada while Shell will provide CO2 storage via the proposed Polaris CCS project for producing the low-carbon hydrogen which will then be exported to Japan to produce clean energy.

Linde has signed a long-term agreement with Infineon Technologies to produce and store high-purity green hydrogen as well as other industrial gases at Infineon's Villach site in Austria. Under the contract, Linde will build, own and operate a 2-MW electrolyzer plant which will cater to the company’s semiconductor manufacturing process.

BP Australia has revealed that the production of green hydrogen and ammonia using renewable energy is ‎technically feasible at scale in Australia, according to the findings of its latest study. The study further reveals that Western Australia is ideally positioned for the production of these sustainable gases.

Orlen Unipetrol has plans to expand its existing Litvínov steam cracker, located at the company’s production plant in Záluží, Czech Republic, by adding an 11th furnace to the project. With an investment of more than 32 million dollars, the construction of the new furnace will be based on Technip Energies’ proprietary SMK coil technology and will be commissioned in 2022.

Shell has plans to build a 820,000-tons-a-year biofuels facility at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. Once complete, the facility is expected to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel.
