The chemical company Yara along with Northern Lights, a joint venture firm of Shell, Equinor and Total Energies have entered into an agreement to transport CO2 captured from Yara Sluiskil, an ammonia and fertilizer plant in the Netherlands, and permanently store it under the seabed off the coast of Norway.

The shipment from the UAE to Germany marks the first ever demonstration cargo of low-carbon ammonia between both the countries. Germany’s Aurubis, a leading global provider of non-ferrous metals will use the low-carbon ammonia as a feedstock in its wire rod plant in order to meet its decarbonization goals.

Under a joint partnership, Honeywell and Johnson Matthey (JM) aim to advance low carbon hydrogen solutions by producing blue hydrogen from JM's LCH technology as well as Honeywell's carbon capture technology.

Under a long-term contract signed between both the parties, Air Liquide will supply additional hydrogen and carbon monoxide to Kumho Mitsui Chemical (KMCI) in South Korea in order to expand its methyl diphenyl diisocyanate production.

Topsoe has been selected by Ascension Clean Energy as a technology provider for its industrial-scale low carbon ammonia project in in Louisiana, USA. The project will be using Topsoe’s autothermal reforming technology and is expected to produce 7.2 million metric tons of clean ammonia every year.

Under the terms of the agreement, Johnson Matthey will supply its ammonia cracking technology and catalyst for converting clean ammonia into nitrogen and hydrogen. The clean hydrogen will then be used to power turbines, which are vital components of hydrogen-fuelled power plants.

Topsoe has recently revealed its intention of achieving net zero emissions by 2040. The new targets are in line with the Science Based Target initiative (SBTI) Net-Zero Standard and have been announced post the firm made its earlier target of achieving net zero emissions from its own operations by 2030 public.

Sulzer Chemtech’s advanced separation technologies will be used for European Energy’s mega e-methanol plant in Denmark. Expected to produce 32’000 metric tonnes of carbon neutral fuels annually, the plant will help to decarbonize the heavy transportation sector.

Lyondell Basell and Kirkbi have invested in APK to become minority shareholders of the firm. APK has developed a unique solvent-based recycling technology which separates different polymers of multi-layer packaging materials and produces recycled materials which can be used for new packaging materials.

Under a long-term agreement signed between both the parties, Air Liquide will develop a new hydrogen production unit at the Grandpuits site in France. This unit will partly use biogas from Total Energies’ Grandpuits biorefinery and make use of Air Liquide’s carbon capture technology to produce renewable, low-carbon hydrogen which will be used by the biorefinery to produce sustainable aviation fuel.
