BASF has plans to expand the production capacity of expandable polystyrene granulate (Neopor) at its Ludwigshafen site in Germany. The expandable polystyrene granulate is mainly used as a raw material for the production of energy-efficient insulation materials for building envelopes.

The Rudong site in China is BASF Agricultural Solutions’ first CO2-emission-free production site. The site has modified its existing heating system from fossil-based steam to renewable energy.

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action has approved funding to BASF for developing the world’s largest industrial heat pump for CO2-free steam generation at its Ludwigshafen site in Germany. The heat pump is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 98 % at the site.

BASF has introduced Ultramid Low PCF and Ultramid Zero PCF within its polyamide value chain in Europe. Ultramid Zero PCF is the first polyamide 6 in the industry to achieve a CO2 footprint of net zero while Ultramid Low PCF is produced using electricity from renewable energy sources and low-emission steam.

BASF has recently inaugurated a new mega production plant for alkyl ethanolamines at its Verbund site in Antwerp, Belgium. With this project, the company is expected to increase its global annual production capacity for alkyl ethanolamines by nearly 30 percent to over 140,000 tons per year.

BASF’s ammonia Bmbcert grade offers a significantly reduced product carbon footprint as compared to the standard product. Evonik has received a first shipment of ammonia Bmbcert and aims to incorporate it into its ISCC Plus certified production processes in order to cut down on its emissions.
