BASF and Yara have plans to conduct a joint study in order to assess the development of a world-scale low-carbon blue ammonia production facility in the U.S. Gulf Coast region. If approved, the project is expected to have a total annual capacity of 1.2 to 1.4 million tons.

Under the global initiative ‘Together for Sustainability’, some of the major chemical groups along with other international companies will work together with Siemens to decarbonize the industry’s supply chain.

The consortium includes Exxonmobil, Cyclyx International, Sealed Air, and Ahold Delhaize USA. Exxonmobil’s Exxtend technology has been used for the project for breaking down plastic waste into its molecular building blocks in order to produce new plastic for food-grade packaging.

Syzygy Plasmonics has selected Emerson to automate its innovative catalyst reactor technology that uses light instead of thermal energy to decarbonize chemical production. The technology is expected to help manufacturers reduce both emissions and operational costs.

BASF’s advanced OASE blue technology will be used by Linde and Heidelberg Materials’ large-scale CO2 capture facility. Once complete, the project is expected to capture, purify and liquify around 70,000 tons per year of CO₂ which can then be used as feedstock for the chemicals industry and into the food and beverage end-use markets.

Chemical company Solvay plans to split into two independent, listed companies in the second half of 2023: Specialty Co is to operate as a pure specialty chemicals company with accelerated growth potential; Essential Co is to focus primarily on sustainable solutions as a supplier of basic chemicals.

Sasa Polyester Sanayi has selected Honeywell’s Oleflex technology to build the world’s largest propane dehydrogenation unit in Yumurtalık, Turkey. On completion, the facility is expected to produce 1-million-tons of propylene annually.

Asahi Kasei, Microwave Chemical have plans to conduct a joint demonstration project for chemical recycling of Polyamide 66 using the microwave technology. With this project, the firms aim to depolymerize PA66 and directly obtain the HMD and ADA monomers at high yields and a low energy consumption.
