Chemical company Ineos and Chinese group Sinopec have finalized two of four major petrochemical deals. The other two projects are also expected to be finalized later this year.

Under an agreement between Cinea, Perstorp, and Uniper, ‘Project Air’ has been granted the hefty amount with an aim to decarbonize the European chemical industry. The CCU project will convert CO2, residue streams, renewable hydrogen and biomethane which will then be used for large-scale production of sustainable methanol.

OQ Chemicals is in the process of expanding its production capacity for carboxylic acids in Germany. The firm’s carboxylic acids are used in the animal feed industry to produce innovative feed additives as well as in the production of highly efficient lubricants for eco-friendly, and energy-saving air conditioning systems.

LG Chem has plans to increase its battery materials sales sixfold to 25.5 billion dollars by 2030 from 3.9 billion dollars in 2022. The firm also intends to focus on three new growth sectors – battery materials, sustainability business and innovative new drugs.

Italian chemical company Sabo acquired Evonik’s two TAA production sites in Marl, Germany and Liaoyang, China, as of January 1, 2023. Around 250 employees have been transfered to new owner.

Lanxess has plans to source sustainable raw materials from Covestro, which have a significantly reduced carbon footprint, to produce key basic chemicals at its Lower Rhine sites in Germany. The partnership will result in reducing CO2 emissions by up to 120,000 tons per year at the site.

Oxychem has selected thyssenkrupp nucera to install the next generation ebitac v7 electrolyzers at its large-scale chlor-alkali electrolysis plant in LaPorte, Texas, USA. The firm aims to convert the facility to the membrane chlor-alkali technology from the existing diaphragm cell technology.

Under the ‘Plasco2 project’, Evonik along with its three partners aim to turn the greenhouse gas CO2 into a raw material which can then be used for the production of C4 chemicals. The partners are working together to extract synthesis gas from CO2 and hydrogen by means of a plasma reactor using a newly developed process.

Nouryon’s move to take over the Poland-based company Adob has helped the firm to broaden its innovative crop nutrition portfolio. The deal has also led the global specialty chemicals leader to take possession of Adob’s two manufacturing sites in Poland.
