BASF, Sabic, and Linde have started-up the world’s first large-scale electrically heated steam cracking furnace at BASF’s Verbund site in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The project makes use of electricity from renewable sources and has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 90 % compared to the technologies commonly used today in the chemical industry.
Clariant, a leader in specialty chemicals, has successfully acquired Lucas Meyer Cosmetics from IFF for 810 million dollars, marking a significant step in its strategy for sustainable and customer-focused innovation.
OMV Petrom has plans to make the hefty investment at its Petrobrazi refinery in Romania with an aim to become the first major producer of sustainable fuels in Southeast Europe.
A team of co-authors from five different countries, has uncovered a revolutionary new design concept for catalysts used in the industrially crucial Methanol-to-Hydrocarbon (MTH) process, enabling the production of high-demand chemical commodities from source-abundant methanol.
Cost plays a vital role while developing industrial plants but by opting for a modular plant, capex costs, material costs and even labor costs can be slashed. Also, modular, skid-mounted units are developed in-doors under controlled environments and at speed which helps to save valuable time for industry players.
Achema has once again opened its doors to the global process industry. Located in Frankfurt, Germany, the mega show which will be held from June 10 – 14, 2024, offers six innovative themes – Process, Pharma, Green, Lab, Digital and Hydrogen.
Many processes require ammonia — but handling this volatile substance, which is aggressive in combination with water, is not easy. In particular, the need to take regular samples poses challenges for operators. Optimized processes enable faster sampling of ammonia and thus contribute to higher accuracy, lower costs and greater employee safety.
Nord presented a wide range of products at Achema in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The focus was on Atex-compliant drive concepts for the process industry and the robust heavy-duty Maxxdrive industrial gear unit, in particular for agitator and mixer applications. Further focal points at the trade fair was the new decentralized Nordac On/On+ frequency inverters, the revolutionary Duodrive geared motors and IE5+ synchronous motors as well as the Nordcon App with Nordac Acces BT.
AM Green’s green ammonia plant has become the first Indian project to secure the prestigious Certifhy EU Pre-Certification. Situated in Kakinada, India, the project is expected to increase its production capacity from one to five million tons per annum of green ammonia by 2030.
Organosulfur skeletons are crucial in many fields, including pharmaceuticals and electronics. Synthesizing organosulfur skeletons requires o-bromobenzenethiols. However, conventional methods face challenges due to quick oxidation and formation of highly reactive intermediates. In a new study, researchers from Japan developed a new method for synthesizing o-bromobenzenethiols from aryne intermediates via bromothiolation. This method can pave the way for the synthesis of new organosulfur compounds with applications in diverse fields.
