Ineos Styrolution has collaborated with Indaver with an aim to recycle polystyrene and create valuable resources. Indaver is also in the process of developing a demo-installation which is expected to have a recycling capacity of 15,000 tonnes per year.

In this project, renewable raw materials will be used for the production of bio-based chemicals. Budgeted at 10.9 million dollars, the project aims at creating a sustainable bio-based industry sector in the European region.

BASF and Petronas announced that the Heads of Agreement (HoA) between the two parties for a joint speciality chemicals venture within Petronas’ Refinery & Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) project in Pengerang, Johor/Malaysia, has been terminated by mutual agreement.

The unit is a part of Gulf Coast Growth Ventures’ plan to construct a new chemical complex near Texas. On completion, the complex is expected to include a 1.8 MTPA ethane steam cracker, a 1.1 MTPA monoethylene glycol unit, and the polyethylene unit.

Specialty chemicals company Lanxess has increased its dichlorobenzene capacity by more than 15 %. It has done so by installing an additional crystallizer at the Leverkusen site, thereby enabling it to produce more high-purity paradichlorobenzene for the global market. Some € 3 million has been invested in the capacity expansion for this intermediate for the manufacture of high-performance plastics.

Lanxess has completed Level 3 Certification in the ZDHC Gateway for all organic leather chemicals and has also become the maiden company to achieve this feat. The firm has also received the Chem-MAP Multi-Site Award.

Oxea has plans to expand its production capacities in order to meet the growing market demand. Basic engineering work for the project is expected to begin soon and is anticipated to be functional by the second half of 2021.

Eastman Chemical Company has plans to acquire cellulosic yarn producing firm Industrias del Acetato de Celulosa (Inacsa). Under the terms of the agreement, Eastman intends to takeover the entire yarn business including Inacsa’s plant and assets in Spain.

The new plant is using Invista’s proprietary P7 PTA process technology along with the company’s proprietary R2R technology for production of benzoic acid as a co-product. On-Specification production was achieved on May 24, 2019.
