The Plastics Europe association has revealed that European plastics manufacturers are planning a significant increase in chemical recycling investment i.e. from 3.17 billion USD in 2025 to 8.7 billion USD in 2030. With this move, manufacturers will aim to produce 1.2MT in 2025 and 3.4 MT in 2030 of recycled plastics.

Under the Circular Plastics Fund, Dow, Lyondell Basell, and Nova Chemicals have teamed up to accelerate investment in plastics recycling infrastructure. The Fund invites businesses across the plastics value chain to join in advancing the recovery and recycling of plastics in the U.S. and Canada.

Korea Petrochemical Ind. Co. (KPIC) has plans to use Lummus Technology’s butadiene extraction technology at its Onsan chemical plant in Ulsan, Korea. On completion, the facility will produce 146,000 MTA of butadiene and generate feed for an existing olefins conversion unit.

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) will be building a world-scale ‘blue’ ammonia production facility at the Ta’ziz industrial ecosystem and chemicals hub in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, UAE. With an expected capacity of 1,000 kilo tons per annum, the plant will enable the company to explore opportunities in hydrogen and hydrogen carrier fuels.

Seven Fraunhofer Institutes are working together for the lighthouse project ‘Waste4Future’ wherein they intend to develop new solutions for plastics recycling. With this project, the institutes want to establish a chemical industry that requires less fossil raw materials and produces less emissions.

The Singapore Economic Development Board (Singapore EDB) has stated in its recent release the country’s business sentiments for April – September 2021. It further mentions that the biomedical manufacturing cluster expects a positive business environment for the above-mentioned period while the chemicals cluster expects output to increase in the next quarter.
