German Chemical Pharmaceutical Industry Increases Production by 4.5 % in 2021

The German chemical industry association 'Verband der Chemischen Industrie e.V.' (VCI) has reported that production in the German chemical pharmaceutical industry rose by 4.5 % compared to the previous year, and turnover increased by 15.5 % to approximately 247 billion dollars (220 billion euros) due to the significant increase in producer prices (+ 8.5 %). The VCI also predicts that production is expected to increase by 2 % and the turnover by 5 % to 260 billion dollars (231 billion euros) in 2022.

South Korea’s DL E&C Wins 1.3-Billion Dollar Contract for Russia’s Largest Gas and Chemicals Complex

South Korean engineering and construction company DL E&C has secured a contract for designing the plants of the mega-scale Russian Baltic Complex Project and will also procure equipment for the same. The plants which are a part of the complex will be capable of producing 3 million tons of polyethylene, 120,000 tons of butane, and 50,000 tons of hexane every year.

The chemical recycling demo plant will be based on OMV’s proprietary ReOil technology and will be built at the Schwechat refinery in Austria. The demo plant with a design capacity of 16,000 t/year will help to scale up the ReOil technology which helps to convert plastics into synthetic feedstock for the petrochemical industry.

Under a contract signed between thyssenkrupp Uhde Chlorine Engineers and Shell, thyssenkrupp will engineer, procure and fabricate a 200 MW electrolysis plant based on its large-scale 20 MW alkaline water electrolysis module for the mega ‘Hydrogen Holland I’ project in the port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The project will produce green hydrogen for the industry and transport sector in the region.
