The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action has approved funding to BASF for developing the world’s largest industrial heat pump for CO2-free steam generation at its Ludwigshafen site in Germany. The heat pump is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 98 % at the site.

This enhancement brings the capability of side vented pan coating to smaller particles, such as pellets or minitablets. The drum's wedge wires feature a rounded, smooth design, ensuring minimal impact on the product and enhancing flowability. The drum’s unique structure also supports high process air volumes, enabling increased spray rates and efficient, short processing times comparable to traditional perforated drum coaters and provides an interesting alternative to fluid bed thanks to its reduced footprint by at least 30 %.

Under an agreement signed between BASF and Domo Chemicals, BASF has the right to acquire Domo Chemicals’ stake of 49 % in the Alsachimie joint venture of which BASF holds 51 %.
